Last Updated: May 12, 2026 – After weeks of snow clearance operations, Kunzum Pass has finally opened for 4×4 vehicles on May 12, 2026. This marks the first movement on the iconic Manali to Spiti route after heavy winter snowfall blocked the pass for months.
According to the latest Kunzum Pass road status today, only high ground clearance 4×4 vehicles are advised to attempt the crossing, as several sections still remain covered with snow and slush.
As of May 12, 2026, Kunzum Pass is now accessible for 4×4 vehicles. PWD teams successfully cleared major snow sections between Batal and Losar, allowing the first vehicles to cross the pass.
However, the route is still challenging. Snow walls, water crossings, slush, and narrow sections continue to make the journey risky for low-ground-clearance cars.
Local taxi operators and overlanders have started sharing visuals from the pass as the first 4×4 vehicles successfully crossed Kunzum Pass on May 12 morning. Videos from the route show massive snow walls still standing on both sides of the road.

The local body has been working continuously for weeks to reopen the Manali to Spiti route. Heavy machines, snow cutters, and JCBs were deployed to clear massive snow accumulation near Kunzum Pass.
This year’s snowfall was heavier than usual, delaying the opening compared to previous seasons. Even now, certain sections still have deep snow packed along the roadside.

According to the latest Kunzum Pass road status today:

The landscape is still raw, wild, and covered in snow, making this one of the most dramatic times to experience the Manali to Spiti route. But with extreme beauty comes difficult terrain, so proper preparation remains essential.
