The Rivian R2 Electric SUV keeps the brand’s recognizable style. It features a clean body shape with rounded edges, vertical LED lighting, and a strong stance. At first glance it looks similar to the R1S, but the R2 is more compact and agile.
The SUV rides on a 115.6-inch wheelbase, shorter than the R1S. Rivian also reduced the vehicle’s weight by nearly 2,000 pounds. The result is a lighter electric SUV that feels quick and responsive both on highways and rough terrain.
Buyers will also see several fresh exterior colors. Rivian introduced new metallic finishes including Catalina Cove blue-green, Esker Silver, and Half Moon Grey. Wheel sizes range from 19 to 21 inches, giving the SUV a strong luxury presence.

Under the surface, the Rivian R2 Electric SUV uses the brand’s new mid-size platform. Rivian built this architecture to deliver strong performance while keeping the vehicle practical for daily use.
The lineup includes two main powertrain choices. Entry-level versions use a single-motor rear-wheel-drive setup producing around 350 horsepower and 355 lb-ft of torque. These models offer solid performance for drivers who want efficiency and simplicity.
The more powerful versions feature a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. The Premium variant produces about 450 horsepower, while the Performance model pushes output to around 656 horsepower. That top model accelerates from 0–60 mph in just 3.6 seconds.
Even the standard version performs well. It reaches 60 mph in about 5.9 seconds, which is quick for a mid-size SUV.
Rivian also built the R2 for adventure. The SUV offers nearly 9.6 inches of ground clearance and intelligent all-wheel-drive control. Drivers can confidently explore trails, snow, and rugged landscapes without sacrificing everyday comfort.

Range and Charging for Modern EV Drivers
Range remains a major factor for electric vehicles, and Rivian aims to reduce any concerns with the R2 lineup. Most versions of the Rivian R2 Electric SUV will use a battery pack with about 87.9 kWh of usable energy capacity.
The Standard Long Range model is expected to deliver an estimated 345 miles per charge. Dual-motor versions offer about 330 miles of range. Even the base Standard variant should provide more than 275 miles.
Fast charging helps make long trips easier. When connected to a high-speed charger, the battery can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in roughly 29 minutes. This allows drivers to quickly recharge during road trips or travel breaks.
